Renowned activist and lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the growing economic challenges facing Nigeria. His statement follows the controversial display of the Russian flag during the recent EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests in Kano and other Northern states.
Idam criticized the display of the Russian flag by protesters, labeling it as a severe act of civil disobedience and a sign of disloyalty to Nigeria’s sovereignty. He argued that this act reflects deep-seated dissatisfaction among the citizens, particularly in the North, where many feel disillusioned by the current state of governance.
“The flying of the Russian flag by Northern protesters is the highest expression of civil disobedience and disloyalty to Nigeria’s sovereignty,” Idam stated. “It is a scornful and contemptuous act that speaks volumes both nationally and internationally.”
The activist did not shy away from holding President Tinubu accountable, suggesting that the president’s actions and policies have contributed to the discontent. “President Tinubu should blame no one but himself for this display of disallegiance,” Idam remarked. “His words and actions have not been kind to the protesters or the situation at hand.”
Idam further urged the president to recruit practical economists with proven expertise in economic growth to steer the nation out of its current economic challenges. He warned that the ongoing economic issues could lead to more widespread protests if not addressed urgently.
“The president needs to bring in individuals with practical knowledge of how to grow an economy within a short period,” Idam advised. “Conventional politicians who only focus on sharing money and grandstanding before the media will not solve Nigeria’s problems.”
In conclusion, Idam emphasized the urgency of the situation, cautioning that if the government fails to address these issues, protests could resurface on a larger scale, with Northern citizens leading the charge once again.
