The Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) condoles with the family of Matilda Itonyo Mark, a final year law student of Rivers State University, who was raped and stabbed to death in her apartment yesterday 10th of December, 2019.
The condolence message was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) by Munir Shuaibu Ishaq, the National Director of LAWSAN Directorate of Students Rights and the said message partly reads:
“We are deeply pained and saddened by the gruesome act perpetuated against the young, beautiful and promising soul, Matilda was said to be a student entrepreneur and a ballet dancer, whose relations with her fellow students is simply amazing.”
The student’s body expressed its commitment towards contributing to the ongoing investigation by the police and further expressed its regret that the deceased was cut short even when she is about finishing her studies.
“The LAWSAN Directorate of students’ rights Commiserates deeply with the family and friends of our dear colleague, and reiterates its commitment in seeing to the success of the investigation presently carried out by the police in unraveling the culprit responsible for this monstrous act. For someone who has scaled through the rigors of legal studies from the scratch, only to be cut short in the ultimate year, we can only pray may the Lord Almighty bless her soul. Rest in peace Dear Matilda” the statement further reads.
