Mr. Kunle Edun has replied the allegations making around that he is not qualified to contest for the position of Welfare Secretary in the forthcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Elections.

This is contained in a statement issued by him which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.

It would be recalled that an Abuja based Lawyer, A.A Samuel had earlier on written the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) urging that Mr. Kunle Edun be disqualified to contest because he is not qualified to contest.

Mr. Kunle Edun has however set the record straight by contending that the allegations are “most unfortunate”. Besides, he noted that he was one of the Lawyers co-opted into the NEC in the A.B Mahmud led administration and alluding to the other positions he held.

Therefore, he disclosed that he will be consulting his Lawyer in order to take the appropriate actions.

The statement reads:

My attention has just been drawn to a false news going round that i allegedly furnished ECNBA false information by stating that i was a former member of NEC and had met the two years minimum criterion of NEC membership. I am not perturbed because i know where it is coming from. No matter how dark a place is a littke light will bring out its secret.

Suffice to state that the records at the NBA Secretariat will confirm that i was one of the lawyers co-opted into NEC by the immediate past President of the NBA, A.B. Mahmud, SAN during the 2016-2018 administration. I attended many of the NEC meetings as a co-opted NEC member and my attendance are variously recorded in the NBA National Secretariat report presented at the NEC meetings during the said period. I particularly remember the NEC A.B. Mahmud’s NEC meetings held in Illorin, Uyo and Kano because of the tourism aspects and interesting cuisines in those cities.

Same 2016-2018, i was a NEC member, i was also the Vice Chairman of the NBA Warri; Council member of SPIDEL and member of the NBA Human Right Institute.

It is most unfortunate that instead of doing a thorough investigation to be sure of the facts, anyone can just pick a pen and make ludicrous and defamatory allegations against a colleague.

For two decades now, i have built my reputation at the bar on integrity and truth, and for someone to think he can ruin them, i will not accept it. I shall consult with my lawyers on the necessary action to take against such a person. It is unethical and a gross professional misconduct for a lawyer to deliberately tell lies against a colleague just to score cheap points.

My passion to serve the NBA is unshaken and no manufactured falsehoods against me will stop it. I live for humanity. The Nigerian lawyer deserves true service and i owe it to them.
