Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has approved the immediate reinstatement of Jamiu Abdulkarim Asuku as his Chief of Staff and Jibrin Momoh as the state’s Accountant-General.
Secretary to the State Government, Folashade Arike Ayoade, confirmed this in a statement in Lokoja on Monday.
She said Bello has also ordered several other key government officials to resume their previous positions
According to her, they include Yakubu Okala: former State Auditor-General, Idris Asiwaju Asiru, former Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning and Barr Momodu Ozigi Deedat: former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The statement, however, said that the reinstatement of the Auditor-General and the commissioners is subject to the scrutiny and confirmation of the state House of Assembly.
It stated clearly that they can only resume after being duly approved by the house.
“Note that these individuals had previously submitted their resignation letters in March.
“Their reinstatement has been carefully considered and approved by the State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
“We trust that the reinstatement of these officials will further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the state government in delivering its mandate to the people of Kogi State,” the statement said.
It was reported that the affected individuals resigned their appointments in March to contest the April 14 governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
All of them, however, withdrew from the race when Bello openly declared his support for the then state’s Local Government Auditor-General, Ahmed Usman OOdodo, who eventually emerged winner of the primary election.
