The Delta State Police Command is mourning the tragic loss of its Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Agbarho Police Station in Ughelli North local government area. The DPO, who had only been posted to the station two days prior, was killed by kidnappers while responding to a distress call. His colleague, CSP Paul from Ororokpe, Okpe local government area, was seriously injured and is currently battling for his life on a life support machine in an undisclosed hospital.

According to sources, the DPO received the distress call around 1:30 am on Monday, reporting a kidnapping and a trapped vehicle at Agbarho Railway Station. Unbeknownst to the officers, kidnappers had laid an ambush, and upon arrival, they opened fire, killing the DPO and injuring CSP Paul. The fate of other policemen in the team remains uncertain, with conflicting reports of injuries and fatalities.

The deceased DPO’s wife, still unaware of her husband’s tragic fate, remains in the hotel where they were staying. The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has yet to comment on the incident, despite attempts to reach him.

This devastating incident occurred amidst other strings of recent crimes in the area, including an alleged murder by a father in the Agbarho Community.
