An unnamed Chief Magistrate has melted hearts by sharing her May Salary with some National Officers of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, to appreciate them for standing with JUSUN in its quest for total autonomy for the Judiciary.

The 1st Vice President of the Association, John Aikpokpo-Martins revealed this in a post he shared on social media.

“This evening I got a call from a Chief Magistrate. She called to appreciate the NBA national officers for standing up resolutely for the fight for financial autonomy for the judiciary. That she appreciates the personal sacrifices that we are making for a better judiciary. She noted that the immediate beneficiaries will not be the private practitioners or the NBA officers but the judges, magistrates before others, yet….” the NBA leader wrote.

“She requested that I send my account details and upon inquiry, His Worship said that she just got paid for the month, whereas those in the front-line of the fight for a better tomorrow are at home with nothing in their pockets.”
According to Mr Aikpokpo-Martins, the Chief Magistrate told him that she can’t in good conscience spend her salary without appreciating the efforts of NBA Officers towards financial autonomy for the judiciary.
The NBA leader further revealed that he received “one of the most beautiful alert” from the Magistrate.
The Chief Magistrate also ordered the NBA 1st Vice President to give some part of the money to the Welfare secretary of the NBA, Mr Kunle Edun.

Confirming the Magistrate’s gesture, Mr Edun acknowledged through a post on social media that he got Twenty Thousand Naira alert from the magistrate.

“This most excellent gesture is so profound and shows that a lot of persons appreciate our little contributions”… Mr Aikpokpo-Martins wrote.

Many lawyers praised the Chief Magistrate for her uncommon gesture and appreciation of Lawyer’s sacrifice for Judicial Autonomy.

The Judiciary Staff have been on strike for two months demanding financial autonomy for the judiciary.
