There is growing outrage on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter) over the gruesome murder of Idowu Christianah, a 200-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State.
According to reports, Christianah was allegedly killed by Adeleye Ayomide, also an undergraduate of OOU.
It was learned that the deceased was reported missing after her abductors used her WhatsApp account to contact her parents, sending photos of her in captivity through the ‘view once’ feature and demanding ₦1.5 million in ransom.
Christianah’s parents managed to raise ₦350,000, which they transferred to a betting account as instructed by the kidnappers.
After receiving the ransom, the abductors asked for a copy of the sender’s bank statement. Christianah’s family provided it on August 23, but communication from the kidnappers ceased shortly after.
During this time, some of the ransom funds were deposited into Christianah’s GTBank account and later moved into a Wema Bank account associated with the primary suspect, Adeleye Ayomide, a 200-level student at OOU.
On August 26, investigators began tracking the linked bank accounts. By August 29, they identified that the BVN connected to the betting account belonged to Ayomide, who had already withdrawn ₦100,000 before the betting company froze the account. Evidence also revealed Ayomide’s connection to Christianah through their Instagram interactions.
Authorities traced Ayomide’s mobile device to his family’s home in Ikorodu, prompting the deployment of military personnel from the 174 Battalion for his arrest.
A search through his mobile phone uncovered incriminating evidence, including Christianah’s phone, bank records linking Ayomide to the crime, and email correspondence between him and the victim’s family.
On Tuesday, the suspect was said to have confessed to killing Christianah and burying her at his family home.
The X community, therefore, expressed shock and anger over these developments, calling for justice to be served.
Newsmen observed that the netizens have started trending hashtag #JusticeForChristianah on X to demand the immediate prosecution of the suspect.
Many tweeps also suggest that Ayomide may have been involved in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020 under alleged similar circumstances.
A user, MrMekzy, wrote: “Killed his own sister and buried her. Killed his girlfriend and buried her. killed Christianah and buried her.
“Tie this animal to a drum and put a lot of holes in his chest region. #justiceforchristianah.”
Shaba wrote: “That serial killer AYOMIDE was always retweeting Wizarab and Shola. The Incel community is a cancer, seeing women as nothing but items, things and being blamed for their sad lonely lives which in turn becomes femicide. #JusticeForChristianah.”
Ijoba wrote: “If at the age 15, he rap*d and put a 14-year-old girl in coma, Ayomide at 17 k!lled his first victim and buried her in his parent house.“Then we need to ask his parent a lot of questions because there is no way they won’t know something about their son. #JusticeForChristianah.”
According to Aproko Doctor, the culprit’s family should also answer for his crime.
He wrote: “The members of his family who also covered up the previous murders should face the law. #JusticeForChristianah.”
Dipo Awojide wrote: “I hope the police will fully investigate Adeleye Ayomide, a 200 level student of Philosophy at Olabisi Onabanjo University. Once they find him guilty of the murder of Christianah Idowu he should be hanged. That should be one less problem in Nigeria. #JusticeForChristianah.”
