The former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has reacted the Court Order which declared Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act unconstitutional.

A Federal High Court, per Justice Evelyn Anyadike, sitting in Abia, had on Friday declared that the section is contrary to the 1999 constitution, adding that the AGF should delete it.

However, Odinkalu in a tweet sighted by LegaldeskNG described the Order as “crooked and corrupt”

He said, “On this one, sadly, there is only 1 conclusion: This is a corrupt & crooked order on its face.”

Odinkalu further faulted the court order based on the procedure on the face of it. According to him, when a case comes up for judgment, the court does not “hear” counsel nor does it go into “due consideration”. It simply proceeds to judgment after taking appearances.

The former NHRC boss therefore concluded that the judge is corrupt. He said,

“Contrary to the text of this order, the court does not “hear” counsel nor does it go into “due consideration”. It simply proceeds to judgment after taking appearances. This judge is clearly corrupt.”
