The former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Chairman, Warri Branch (2014 – 2016.), John Aikpokpo-Martins, Esq has condemned the murder of late Omo Iyioha Osabase, a member of Benin Branch.

LEGALDESKNG learnt this in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL), Aikpokpo-Martins said a couple of weeks ago he made a statement calling on the abductors of the deceased to release him but unfortunately today Osabase was reported to have been killed.

“The Secretary of the Benin Branch just released a statement confirming my fear that Omo Iyioha Osabase has since been murdered by his suspected abductors; one Osazuwa Osadolor a son of one notorious Afro, in concert with 5 others.”

Commenting on those whom he believe to be mastermind of the murder, Aikpokpo-Martins said “Those who grew up in Benin City in the 70s and 80s can testify to the notoriety of afore-mentioned Afro, the father of some of the suspected murderers of our learned colleague. It is alarming; a disgrace and is totally unacceptable that Afro has apparently sired offsprings who are also walking the path of criminality, notoriety and callousness like he did in the 70s and 80s.”

He said he had followed the matter privately after his public statement but is “appalled by the arrogance exhibited by the abductors during, and after the abduction of Omo Iyioha Osabase.”

He continued: “They seem to believe that they have the licence to do as they wish; the untouchables!”

Aikpokpo-Martins called for the invoking of the full wrath of the law against the perpetrators “This crime must not be swept under the carpet; must never be amicably settled and must elicit the fiercest punishment prescribed by law. The law must avenge Omo Iyioha Osabase; this is the least that we own him.

“Rest in peace champion.”
