Jigawa State Government has said the closure of Kano-Kari road by the Federal Government as a result of the bridge collapse is threatening other roads in the state.

The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Aminu Usman raised the alarm while responding to questions from newsmen at a media forum.

He said following the closure of the road, heavy-duty machines and vehicles are now playing state road, causing damages.

He said, “heavy-duty machines and vehicles that are above the capacity of state’s roads now following the roads as an alternative and at the same time damaging them”

“After the closure of the road as a result of the bridge collapse, vehicles from Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Barno and Yobe states going to Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara diverted through Jigawa State”

“Most of these roads are meant for vehicles without heavy loads mostly for transportation of farm produces to home and markets”

The Commissioner called on the federal government as a matter of urgency to repair the bridge and open the road to save the Jigawa Sate Government from unnecessary spendings.
