The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Udu Branch, held its executive elections on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Wetland Hotel in Mofor, Orhuwhorun road, Udu Local Government Area, Delta State. The election, conducted by the Caretaker Committee led by Chief Ayo Asala, SAN, saw J. E. Odohisi, Esq. emerge as the new Chairman.
Odohisi secured victory with 57 votes, defeating his opponent, B. M. Jamaho, Esq., who garnered 44 votes. In the race for the position of Secretary, Austin E. Nyekigbe, Esq. emerged victorious with 55 votes, edging out David Omage, Esq., who received 45 votes.
The election process was free, fair, and credible, with 106 accredited eligible voters and a total of 101 votes cast. The proceedings commenced at approximately 2:00 pm and concluded by 4:24 pm.
Chief Ayo Asala, SAN, announced the results, declaring J. E. Odohisi, Esq. as the duly elected Chairman and Austin E. Nyekigbe, Esq. as the Secretary. In a display of sportsmanship, B. M. Jamaho, Esq., an experienced community leader, congratulated Odohisi with a hug and a handshake following the announcement of the results.
In his acceptance speech, Odohisi expressed gratitude to the members for their unity and peaceful participation in the election. He emphasized the significance of the day, stating, “Today, history has been made. The branch has decided, I want us to keep the unity and work together to move the branch forward.”
Odohisi also extended his appreciation to the Caretaker Committee, led by Chief Ayo Asala, SAN, for their meticulous conduct of the election. He acknowledged his fellow contestants, emphasizing that they are all winners and that the NBA, Udu branch must progress.
The event culminated in the swearing-in of the new Executive, which comprises J. E. Odohisi, Esq. as Chairman, Mrs. Ejiroghene Oghale as Vice Chairman, Austin E. Nyekigbe, Esq. as Secretary, S. G. Okpongu, Esq. as Treasurer, and Mrs. Ufuoma Avwaroda-Hitler as Assistant Secretary.
