The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State, has suspended a student, Newton Ezegbola-Nsiegbe of the department of Political Science for possession of hard drugs.
A statement by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, said the student was apprehended by the University Security personnel in the hostel with about 1.75g of substance suspected to be Indian hemp which he allegedly smokes and sells to his colleagues on campus.
Professor Ndimele said the students have been handed over to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement, NDLEA for further investigation.
He also disclosed that the matter has been referred to the Students Disciplinary Committee to determine the fate of the suspended student.
According to the statement, the VC said there will be no peace for those who want to “dent the image of the University”.
