Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly defended former President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming that Buhari laid a solid foundation for President Bola Tinubu to build upon. Igbokwe’s comments come in the wake of ongoing criticisms of Buhari’s presidency, with some, including former Special Adviser Babafemi Ojudu, questioning Buhari’s vision and leadership.

In a Facebook post, Igbokwe lashed out at those who believe Buhari was a failure, stating unequivocally: “Let nobody living or dead run away with the thinking that PMB is a failure. Perish the thought.” He emphasized that Buhari’s achievements and his contributions are visible for all to see and that his leadership provided the groundwork for Tinubu to succeed.

He continued: “He laid the solid foundation for PBAT (President Bola Ahmed Tinubu) to build on. We are seeing the footprints and the gains today,” reiterating that Buhari’s legacy has made it possible for the current administration to thrive.

Igbokwe’s defense of Buhari comes in stark contrast to Ojudu’s recent remarks, where the former presidential aide described Buhari as lacking the necessary vision to drive the country forward. Ojudu also criticized Buhari for not supporting former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s bid for the presidency, suggesting that this lack of foresight contributed to Buhari’s limited impact as president. Despite this, Ojudu acknowledged Buhari’s patriotism and incorruptibility, praising him for his integrity.

Igbokwe’s statements add to the ongoing debate within the APC and Nigeria at large over Buhari’s legacy and the future of the country under President Tinubu.
