The reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has revealed her reasons for deleting her X account following a wave of backlash over her nationality and victory in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition.
Adetshina, who withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant amid allegations by the South African Home Office accusing her mother of fraud and identity theft, made this known in a recent interview on Arise 360.
The Nigerian beauty queen claimed that the relentless negative feedback on social media became overwhelming, prompting her decision to leave the platform.
Adetshina also noted that while she still uses Instagram, she had to limit her comment section at one point to shield herself from the negativity.
“I’m not on Twitter,” Adetshina said.
“I had to delete it because I felt it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader, so I read each and every comment; that’s the thing. So, for me, in a day I spent 80% of my day reading comments. I’d read the comments and all, and it became toxic for me. I use Instagram, but I did limit my comment section one time.”
However, despite the backlash, she expressed appreciation for the support she has received from her fans. However, she acknowledged the risks her supporters face when publicly backing her.
“I have seen that a lot of people in the section say, I really like you, but I don’t want to put my opinion out there, and it’s valid because I feel when people support me, they come for them. I don’t want people to go through something like that for supporting me.”
