The House of Representatives has tasked its constitution review committees with organizing public hearings aimed at permanently addressing the persistent delays in justice delivery and restoring public confidence in the judiciary. This decision follows a motion concerning the urgent need to tackle issues within the judicial system that have eroded trust among the populace.
Raised by Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba, the motion highlighted alarming instances in various states where cases that should be resolved within months are stretching to four or five years before a verdict is reached. These delays are particularly evident in long-term detentions, ongoing chieftaincy disputes, and unresolved commercial litigation, all of which significantly hinder democratic governance and economic advancement.
