The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has relieved the Managing Director (MD) of the Ibom Power Company Limited (IPCL), Engr. Meyen Etukudoh, of his position with immediate effect.

The State has been in darkness for the past three days, and Newsmen learnt that the sack of Engr. Etukudoh may not be unconnected with incessant power blackout in the State, which has caused untold hardship to businesses and residents, despite millions of naira invested in the power sector by the State government

Consequently, Etukudoh has been directed to hand over the firm’s properties and documents in his possession to the commissioner in-charge of Power, who is to oversee the power company till further notice.

A statement to this effect issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, said the governor was disappointed that Etukudoh failed to bring his ingenuity to bear in retooling the energy sector in line with the ARISE Agenda blueprint of the State government.

“As part of the ongoing restructuring exercise of his administration to allign with the machinery of government in the power sector to the ARISE Agenda, His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has relieved the Managing Director (MD), Engr. Meyen Etukudoh, of his appointment with immediate effect.

“Engr. Etukudoh, is therefore, directed to hand over to the commissioner, ministry of Power, who will oversee the company till further notice,” the statement read in part.
