The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo on Wednesday embarked on an inspection of schools in the state, describing the EdoBest project of the immediate past government led by Godwin Obaseki as “PDP EdoBest”.
Newsmen reports that Governor Okpebholo who frowned at the deplorable conditions of facilities at the schools inspected opined that the EdoBest initiative of his predecessor deprived the Edo child of a comfortable learning environment.
Okpebholo while decrying the deplorable structures as well as the poor sanitary, security and learning conditions in the schools assured that his administration would do everything possible to change the narratives. He also lamented the lack of teachers in the schools promising that his administration would correct the anomalies by fixing the schools.
According to him, I wonder this kind of “Edobest” program run by the past administration. Rather than improving the fortunes of the people, the initiative deprived the Edo child comfortable learning environment
“My administration will correct the wrongs and make amends because our job is to make Edo people happy and our children educated in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he said.
Some of the public schools visited by the governors are Eweka Primary School, Obazagbon, Oroma Primary School, Amagba; Amagba Secondary School and Uyiosa Primary School Uzebu; all in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
At Oroma Primary School, Amagba, the governor noted that “this is PDP’s Edobest. It is what we are seeing now but we will come with our renewed hope agenda for Edo people. New things will happen in this school. All that they don’t have we will provide. In the next few days, construction will be going on here”.
The Governor, however, warned those encroaching on Amagba Secondary School land to desist as his government would not hesitate in dealing decisively with the perpetrators.
He assured that the state government would fence the school not only to stop encroaching on the school’s land but to provide security.
At Eweka Primary School, Obazagbon, the Governor said: “Look at the situation of this school, it is terrible as children are here, and this is the so-called EdoBest. For me, this is not acceptable. My administration will fix this school.
“This school must be fenced and by next week Friday, I will be here to see the level of work done because work will commence and in the next few days, you will see transformation in this school”, he stated.
The governor who was also at Uyiosa Primary School, Uzebu Community, promised to rebuild the school and provide security just as he frowned at the unconducive learning environment in the school.
