The All Progressives Congress has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of attempts to influence election results against its governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani), in Adamawa State.

In a statement released on Monday by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to prevent PDP from disrupting the final collation and announcement of governorship election results in the state.

Morka alleged that the state’s incumbent governor and PDP governorship candidate, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led heavily armed thugs to cause a ruckus at the collation centre in order to put pressure on INEC and “prevail against the will of the people”.

The statement read in part, “Election results show a clear and decisive victory for Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani), the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate.

“Faced with the imminent and certain prospect of loss in the election, thugs and political actors led by incumbent Governor, and Candidate of the PDP, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have unleashed heavily armed thugs to disrupt further collation of result and subvert the will of Adamawa people as expressed at the polls.

“The Governor is reported to have torn result sheets at the collation centre in a show of unprecedented impunity and executive brigandage. The result of the election in the Fufore Local Government Area of the state must not be tampered with as Binani holds a clear, unassailable lead, only awaiting final collation and declaration by INEC.”

The electoral umpire postponed the collation of the state’s governorship election results from Local Government Areas until noon.

This was made known by the state Collation Officer, Prof. Mohammed Mele, and the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Yakubu Ari, on Monday after the collation of results from 20 out of the 21 LGAs.
