The Ekiti State Government has announced the initiation of a program offering free surgeries to residents throughout the state, as revealed by Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the Commissioner for Health, in a statement released on Sunday. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility for all residents.
Dr. Filani emphasized that enrollment of patients requiring surgical intervention is currently underway at primary healthcare facilities across all wards in the state. To participate in the program, patients are required to provide their National Identification Number and a passport photograph during enrollment.
The surgical mission, to be carried out across various healthcare facilities in Ekiti State, will encompass a broad spectrum of procedures such as Caesarian sections, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cataract surgeries, lump removals, fibroid removals, hydrocele surgeries, and other minor and major surgical interventions.
According to the commissioner, the primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that all residents, particularly those underserved and financially disadvantaged, have access to necessary surgical treatments without any financial burden. The Free Surgical Mission aims to improve healthcare access, provide free surgical services to those unable to afford such care, and enhance health outcomes by addressing conditions that significantly impact quality of life.
Dr. Filani further outlined that surgeries will be conducted in selected hospitals equipped with essential facilities and skilled personnel to ensure safe and effective outcomes. Comprehensive post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will also be provided to support full recovery and promptly address any potential complications.
