Four passengers have reportedly died while five others sustained severed injuries during a multiple auto crash that occurred along Ayere village, Bode Saadu Highway in Moro local government council area of Kwara state.
Vanguard Correspondent reliably gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday when one of the trucks carrying fertilizer and another 8 passengers bus wrongfully overtook another vehicle without adequate view of the road ahead.
It was further gathered that in a bid to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, the eight-passenger bus lost control and swerved to the side thereby colliding with another incoming truck carrying tomatoes.
It was also gathered though a total of ten persons were involved in the crash with the development leading to the death of four persons instantly while five others got injured in the auto crash.
Contacted, the Sector Command Public Education Officer, Mr. O.B Basambo who confirmed the incident stated that the five injured persons have been taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.
According to him, “On receipt of the report of the crash around 1:09pm, FRSC Rescue operatives were immediately mobilized to the crash scene where they rescued 5 injured male adults to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the Trucks carrying fertilizer and 8 passengers wrongfully overtook another vehicle without adequate view of the road ahead and in a bid to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, lost control and swerved to the side thereby colliding with another truck carrying tomatoes.
“So far, the fire has been put out, and the obstructions cleared to allow free flow of traffic.”
He added that, the Sector Commander has appealed to drivers to avoid speed, overloading and wrongful overtaking and other acts that may be inimical to their safety.
He further reiterated the Command’s commitment towards ensuring the safety of all road users in Kwara state within this holy month of Ramadan and beyond.
