Properties worth billions were lost on Wednesday as fire engulfed a popular hotel in the Garki Area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The fire started at about 3 am, according to a staff member of the hotel, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES.

The official said the hotel was alerted to the fire breakout when a guest ran down to the reception unclad to notify workers about the fire.

The fire, which started from a section of the three-storey building, extended to other parts of the complex, causing panic among guests and staff members.

As of the time of filing this report, fire service officials have arrived and are trying to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is unclear, and no casualty has so far been reported.

Fire service officials and the police are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
