The National Broadcasting Commission says it will sanction any radio or television station broadcasting unverifiable coronavirus claims in any of its programmes.

A statement yesterday by NBC Assistant Director Public Affairs Ekanem Antia said some stations were allowing unverifiable facts about COVID-19 to be aired on their networks, and the commission would not hesitate to punish them if they continued.

The NBC noted that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code forbids stations from making or allowing unverifiable facts to be aired on their programmes.

It urged stations to abide by the code while educating their listeners and viewers on COVID-19.

It however commended broadcast stations across the country for their coverage of COVID-19 so far.
