Dr. Chidi Odinkalu, former chairman National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that the current national crisis, the insecurity, economic, social and political challenges in the country cannot be solved by the Federal Government (FG) because President Muhammadu Buhari does not care about Nigerians.

The former NHRC boss said that the President has never visited victims or families or even gone to the funeral of murdered service men and women to feel the pains of their families. He said that the only thing that matters to the current leaders is to hold on to power.

He maintained that Buhari only seemed to care about himself, to the extent that he has lost interest, and he wondered why or how he would lead anyone out of the present crisis.

In a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT on Wednesday, Odinkalu stated that the insecurity situation in the country has gone from bad to worse, the former chairman of NHRC said that President Buhari has been in power longer than Jonathan.

He stressed that while Jonathan was in power for five years and three months, Buhari has been in power in elective dispensation for more than five years and six months, yet Nigerians are being murdered in their numbers by Boko Haram.

Odinkalu said, “President Buhari is a former Head of State and a former General. Nigerians chose him over Jonathan because he claimed he could defeat Boko Haram.”

“They also expected him to care. But Buhari spends his time sending condolence messages overseas, abusing Nigerians when he is outside, and believing that he is doing Nigerians a favour by sitting idle inside the presidency while people are killed.”

“When he rouses as Commander-In-Chief, it is in connection with atrocities like Zaria Massacre, Lekki Massacre and incidents like that. He has outsourced leadership to everyone but himself.”
