A Chief Magistrate Court in Adamawa State has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to arrest a former high court judge, Hon. Justice Micheal Goji.
The ex-judge, whose immediate crime is the beating up of a court bailiff sent to summon him, is said to have earlier beaten up a revenue official sent to collect tax from him, which in the first place prompted the sending of the bailiff.
Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Digil ordered the arrest of the ex-judge for allegedly beating the court bailiff, Amos Ndari, who went to his residernce in the Federal Housing Estate, Girei, near Yola, to serve him with court summons.
Goji was alleged to have confronted the court bailiff who went from the Magistrate Court in Yola to serve him with the summons following the complaint lodged before it by the State Board of Internal Revenue which had alleged that the judge assaulted an Officer-In-Charge of Girei Tax Office of the Board on the 5th November 2021.
The board said its officer was at Goji’s residence to collect personal income tax for the state when he was dealt with by the judge.
It was gathered on Thursday that as soon as Ndari greeted the ex-judge and introduced himself as a bailiff who came to serve him with court summons, the judge became angry, grabbed the bailiff, and started punching him, until a neighbor intervened.
In response, Chief Magistrate Digil ordered the state police command to arrest the former high court judge.
