According to Mr. Ogbom Goodluck Ogbom, Esq., one of the legal Practitioners, “peaceful protest anywhere in the world, is a tool for registering dissatisfaction against institutional abnormalities and anti people policies. It’s constitutional, so long as it remains peaceful. Nobody should be harassed, dehumanized or killed for exercising their rights.”
According to the attorney, the right to protest is an inalienable right and should not be seen as a gift or donation to the populace by the government.
Hence, security operatives, especially the police are bound to listen to the protesters and ensure their demands are met, especially with regards a holistic reform of the Nigerian Police Force leading to an end in police brutality in the country.
The Tuesday protest in the state was largely peaceful, contrary to widespread rumours of possible anarchy.
Recall that on Monday, the 12th of October, 2020; the Executive Governor of the state, Barr. Nyesom Wike, issued a ban to all forms of protest in the state, which he premised on the fact that the IGP had disbanded the special SARS unit, hence no need for any protest in the state.
