The Eastern Bar Forum has condemned in strong terms the shooting, maiming and killing of unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State, Nigeria.
This comes barely hours after the Lagos State Government imposed a 24 hours curfew in the State. The curfew which was stated to commence by 1600hrs was later shifted to 1900hrs to allow motorist get home on time.
However, it is sad to note that even before the commencement of the curfew, at about 1800hrs, cowards who call themselves Nigerian soldiers opened fire on the protesters killing scores and maiming uncountable numbers.
The Chairman of the Eastern Bar Forum, S. Long Williams Esq. on behalf of the Forum condemns this cold blooded murder of peaceful protesters at dawn who have done nothing but to air their grievances in the most matured, orderly disciplined, coordinated and peaceful manner.
The Chairman declared that is a shame that soldiers who are supposed to be in the northeast, northwest and in the middlebelt fighting Boko Haram, ISWAP, Bandits, Janjaweed Terrorist, Kidnappers, Cattle Rustlers and killer Land Grabbers are busy killing innocent, harmless , dedicated and focused Nigerians.
The Chairman urged the Nigerian Army to redeem its battered cowardiced image by going to the North to degrade and decimate criminal and terrorist ragtag gangs who are going about freely maiming, looting, stealing, raping, killing and burning towns and villages.
He called the President, General Mohammadu Buhari to immediately as a matter of utmost urgency and concern order the troops out of the streets and institute a high powered judicial inquiry into the killings.
This is a shame, this is a show of cowardice, this is unacceptable and all those responsible for this genocide must be brought to account. This is not Tienanmen Square and we must never allow it to be.
