As the Edo State governorship election slated for September 21, 2024, draws nearer, the Asue-Ogie Campaign Management Council on Sunday called on the people of the state not to mortgage their future by voting for an incompetent candidate.

News men reports that the council made the call at a press conference in Benin City.

The deputy director-general of the council in charge of media, Olu Martins, who briefed journalists, reacted to a statement credited to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who alleged that a woman was caught with packs of Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, in Ovia Federal Constituency.

He also alleged that Oshiomhole, who raised the alarm at an APC governorship rally, challenged Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to bury any thought of rigging the election.

While appealing to Edo people not to repeat the voting pattern that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan to former President Muhammadu Buhari, he noted that the only candidate that could sustain and continue the achievements of outgoing Governor Obaseki is Barrister Asue Ighodalo.

According to him, the governorship election is fast approaching and what should be asked of the political parties is what they are bringing to the table.

“We are telling Edo people as of today that they should not make a mistake, reminiscent of what happened some time ago when some of us believed that Jonathan was not good and we shopped for Buhari.

“We are calling on political parties to allow candidates contesting this election to speak for themselves so that tomorrow we can hold him or her responsible,” he said.

Martins urged the Edo people to critically evaluate the antecedents of political parties and their candidates before casting their votes in the governorship election.

“We are telling Edo people that they should take their time to evaluate the candidates of Asue Ighodalo and Monday Okpebholo.

“Edo people have a responsibility today to say you people will not have your way in this election.

“I’m calling on my brothers and sisters living at home and abroad that Edo State is our project, and we cannot pride mediocrity over merit,” he stated.
