OBSCURE LEGAL FACTS BY AROME ABU
In Nigeria, a person who knows of any just reason why a marriage should not take place may object by entering a Caveat at the marriage registry.
The objection will be referred to a Judge of the High Court who will summon the parties to the intended marriage and require the objector to state his reasons for objection.
Any decision made by the Judge of the High Court may be challenged at the Court of Appeal.
See Section 14 and 15 of the Marriage Act.
