Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has advised former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (Labour Party), and Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP) not to contest the 2027 presidential election, warning them against wasting their resources.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Adeyanju suggested that it would be more productive for the trio to gamble on sports betting than to campaign for the presidency. He argued that unseating President Bola Tinubu, even with a united front, would be impossible.
“It is better for Atiku, Obi, & Kwankwaso to use their money to play two odds on BetNaija than to contest against Tinubu & INEC,” Adeyanju said.
He criticized Nigeria’s electoral process, suggesting that results on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IREV) could be altered. “Even if they all unite now, it’s a waste of time. It’s a nation where results on IREV are changed,” he remarked, adding, “Edo on my mind.”
Adeyanju further noted that the opposition had missed its best opportunity to defeat the ruling APC during the 2023 elections, lamenting their failure to unite back then. “Even if they all come together now, Tinubu & INEC will not lose an election Tinubu will conduct,” he concluded, implying that Tinubu’s influence will remain decisive in the 2027 election.
