The Anambra State House of Assembly has been shut down for the next two weeks following the decision of the members to go on recess in order to Fumigate the entire complex against the novel coronavirus infections.
Speaker of the 7th state assembly Rt.Hon.Uche Okafor said it has become very pertinent that the surroundings of the legislative complex should be disinfected especially with the astronomical increase of the COVID -19 pandemic across the country.
He said, ” We want the whole office complex to be fumigated.We all know what is happening in this country and globally. Covid19 has come to stay in Anambra state and it is domiciled in Awka-south where we are staying.
” We have to take this message to our various homes and constituencies to tell them that Covid19 is real and they must protect themselves from the virus. The governnent has started enforcement on the wearing of facemasks and that enforcement is one of the laws passed in this House. The Covid19 law.
” If you don’t wear your facemask and they catch you, you pay N10,000 fine or you are liable to community service. It is not Chin mask. It must cover your nose and your mouth. Covid19 is real and it is because of that that the leadership of the House decided that we go on a two-week break to get the surroundings of the state assembly fumigated.
” When we come back, we will introduce more stringent measures to make sure that Covid19 does not find its way into the state assembly.” Okafor stated.
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly adjourned plenary to the 14th day of July, 2020.
