Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem of the Appeal Court has constituted the 2023 governorship, national and state houses of assembly Election Petition Tribunals for Rivers State.
In a statement made available to Newsmen by Umar Abubakar, Esq., he stated that the constitution of tribunals is the fulfillment of the provision of Section 285 (2) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and Section 131 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended).
The Tribunals would hear and determine Election Petition(s) that may arise from the upcoming 2023 general elections in Rivers State.
Part of the statement reads “This is to inform the general Public that Pursuant to the powers conferred on the Hon. President of the Court of Appeal under section 285 (2) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Section 131 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended), Hon. Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem, (HPCA), has constituted the Governorship, National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunals for Rivers State.
“Meanwhile, the mandate of the Tribunals is to hear and determine Election Petition(s) that may arise from the upcoming 2023 General Elections in Rivers State.
“Sequel to the above, the Honorable Chief Judge of Rivers State, Honorable Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, has granted the use of Magistrate Court 1 hall, Second Floor, Block A, Rivers State High Court Complex, Station Road, Port Harcourt to be used by the Governorship Panel and Magistrate Court 3 hall, Second Floor, Block A, of the same address for use of the Legislative Panel of the Tribunal respectively.
“For any inquiry, Members of the General Public are advised to contact the Secretary of the Tribunal at the Registry/Secretariat of the Tribunal at the above- mentioned Court address,” the statement reads.
