Commercial tricycle operators in Delta State on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest over alleged sale of fake tickets to them by touts in the state.
The development resulted in traffic gridlock as the protesters blocked the Airport Junction and the Effurun Roundabout in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
They vowed to continue the protest until the matter is addressed by relevant government agencies.
Bearing placards with the inscription, ‘We say No to fake tickets’, the commercial tricycle operators chanted a solidarity song, ‘We no go gree, We no go gree!’
In a chat with the DAILY POST correspondent, one of the protesters, simply identified as Capable, said they are being forced to buy fake tickets by touts when the Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has not approved the sale of tickets to tricycle operators.
He said they embarked on the protest because the touts also beat and inflicted bodily injuries on one of their members.
Another tricycle operator, Saturday Dele, who also spoke with our correspondent corroborated the claims of his colleague, pointing out that the ticket which carries the 2024 date is being forcefully sold to them at N300.
He warned that any tout caught selling the fake tickets to their members will be severely dealt with.
Dele appealed to Oborevwori to intervene in the matter before issues get out of hand.
At as the time of filing this report, the protest is still ongoing as policemen were seen trying to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
