The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has called for the immediate suspension of Mele Kyari, the head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), amid serious allegations of fuel subsidy scams, the importation of substandard petroleum products, and the mismanagement of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Deputy Spokesman James Ezema, the CNPP urged authorities to take decisive action by suspending Kyari and conducting an independent investigation into these issues to address the alleged corruption and mismanagement within Nigeria’s oil sector. The organization criticized the significant increase in pump prices from N167 to approximately N700 per litre, highlighting the ongoing scarcity of petrol that continues to affect Nigerians.

The CNPP also echoed concerns raised by Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding the alleged reluctance of NNPCL officials to end the purported lucrative subsidy scam. The CNPP asserts that Kyari’s failure to address these critical issues undermines his suitability for his current role.

The political body expressed dissatisfaction with the management of funds spent on the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery, labeling it as another example of inefficiency and mismanagement within NNPCL. The CNPP has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to achieve justice and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
