The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will on Thursday, December 12, 2024, declare open this year’s Media Conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, in Abuja.

NAJUC is an association of judiciary editors and reporters from print, electronics and online media organizations covering programs and activities of the judiciary arm of government in the country.
They are working to promote the rule of law and rights of the people through incisive, objective and factual reportage.
The Conference, which holds at the Justice Rose Ukeje Hall of the Federal High Court, Abuja, is part of the concerted efforts aimed at bringing critical stakeholders in the judiciary together to brainstorm and proffer solutions to challenging issues in the nation’s judiciary sector.

It is also to ensure capacity building, training and retraining of judiciary reporters, to keep abreast with international best practices in the coverage of courts.

The theme of the conference is ‘The Role of Courts in Enforcement of Judgments’.

A statement by Paschal Njoku, Secretary-General of the association, on Thursday in Abuja, indicated that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, will deliver a paper titled, ‘Aftermath of Supreme Court Judgment on Local Government Financial Autonomy, What Next’.

Foremost human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Professor Mike Ozekhome, SAN, will deliver a keynote address on the theme of the Conference.

In the same vein, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Ola Olukoyede, will present a paper on ‘Local Government Fiscal Autonomy, Enforcement of Supreme Court judgment and Role of EFCC’.

Also, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Senator Opeyemi Michael Bamidele, will deliver a paper on ‘Democracy and Rule of Law; the Way Foreword’.

Njoku added that the Special Guest of Honour, Malam Gambo Saleh Ahmed Esq, Executive Secretary, National Judicial Council, NJC, Abuja, will deliver a paper on ‘The Role of NJC in Sanitizing the Judiciary’.

Chairman of NAJUC, Mr Kayode Lawal of DAILY POST Newspaper, will play host to the eminent guests at the Conference.

Addressing a press conference on the level of preparation ahead of the seminar, NAJUC Chairman, Kayode Lawal said that adequate arrangements have been put in place for a hitch-free ceremony.
