Daily Law Tips (Tip 473) by Onyekachi Umah, Esq., LLM. ACIArb(UK)
BUSINESS OF ASSISTING PEOPLE TO OBTAIN INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT IS A CRIME.
Unlike “sin” and “morality”, “crime” is only what the laws says is a crime. In Nigeria, the business of working as broker/agent for obtaining of international passport is a criminal offence.
Whether the concerned international passport is genuine or not and whether the crime was committed at the office/vicinity of the Nigeria Immigration Service or any other place are all immaterial. The offence is punishable with imprisonment for ten (10) years and or a fine of Two Million Naira(N 2,000,000.00).
My authorities are sections 10(1)(f), 116 and 117 of the Immigration Act, 2015.
