Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has given his approval for the disbursement of N316 million as bursary awards to 8,750 undergraduate students who have been successfully verified and cleared by the state. This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, during a press conference held in Lokoja.

Out of the over 40,000 undergraduate students who applied online for the 2024 Bursary Award, only 8,750 students have completed the necessary document uploads and verification process. The bursary allowance has been increased, with undergraduate students set to receive 30 thousand Naira each, while law school students will receive 300 thousand Naira per student.

A total of 8,549 undergraduate students and 201 law school students have been cleared to receive the bursary awards. The Commissioner assured that the beneficiaries will begin receiving their funds within the next two weeks.

The commitment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration to education and reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state was reiterated by the Commissioner. Additionally, a N5 million cheque was presented to Miss Favour Oluwatimilehin Adebayo, a Kogi State indigene from Odoere in Yagba West Local Government Area, who has been awarded a scholarship to study in Poland.

The Governor graciously approved the disbursement of N5 million to the awardee for bringing pride to the state by winning the European Union Erasmus+ Scholarship. The cheque was presented to the awardee’s father, Mr. Moses Adebayo, by the Commissioner on behalf of the Governor, as a complement to the scholarship awarded by the European Union.

Mr. Afolabi Joseph-Raji, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board (KSSB), commended the Governor for his dedication
