Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed deep concern over the inefficiency and mismanagement of the state’s health sector.

Speaking at the commissioning of four new dialysis and diagnostic equipment at the Bauchi Specialist Hospital on Thursday, the governor vowed to implement strict measures to eradicate the problems and improve healthcare delivery in the state.

“It is not about making speeches, I am bringing equipment and at the end of the day, there are no services, I will no longer condone this, I know what happened here,” he said.

According to him, the state specialist hospital has suffered mismanagement and abuse of authority over the years, warning that such practices will no longer be tolerated under his administration.

“We have to arrest it. Sometimes our equipment is taken away and we have to go after them and arrest them. Even television sets in our rooms are taken away, women are dying on their beds and they are ignored, he said.

He also pledged to carry out weekly meetings with the management of the hospital, the Commissioner of Health and all the heads of health institutions in the state to improve health care services across the state.

The governor, who said that the specialist hospital has only four consultants, announced that initiatives are about to be put in place where the government will retain its medical personnel.

Speaking on the procurement of the dialysis machines, Mohammed stated that accurate diagnosis is crucial for saving lives, which informed his administration’s collective decision to work diligently to procure the necessary equipment.

Earlier Speaking, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Bauchi Specialists Hospital, Abdulkarim Garba Mairiga, thanked the governor for providing the needed equipment for the hospital.

The CMD pointed out that the equipment is going to help not only the people of Bauchi State but even neighboring states.
