Atiku’s remarks came in response to the recent hike in petrol prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The NNPCL increased the pump price of fuel from N897 per litre to N1,030 in Abuja, and from N855 to N998 in Lagos.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Atiku expressed concern over Tinubu’s perceived indifference to the economic hardship affecting Nigerians, stating that the president’s “haphazard” approach to fuel subsidy management has exacerbated the country’s inflation.
He wrote: “The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis in the country.”
Atiku warned that without a change in policy, inflation would continue to rise, further eroding the material well-being of Nigerians.
“As things stand, there will be no let-up in the escalating inflation rate, which is drowning the material well-being of Nigerians,” he added.
He also expressed disappointment in what he described as Tinubu’s lack of urgency in addressing the nation’s economic challenges, stating, “It is even more worrying that T-pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country.”
