The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has announced a 24-member Transition Committee to facilitate a smooth handover process as the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki prepares to conclude its tenure. The committee will work closely with the outgoing government ahead of the November 12, 2024 handover to the incoming administration of Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
In a response letter dated October 14, 2024, and signed by the APC Chairman in Edo State, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, the party formally acknowledged Governor Obaseki’s request to begin transition proceedings. The letter, addressed to Governor Obaseki, expressed the party’s commitment to ensuring an effective and collaborative transition.
“I write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter requesting the Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to initiate the formation of a transition team to work with your side,” Tenebe’s letter read. “We look forward to a smooth and effective collaboration with our 24-member committee, headed by Chief Pius Odubu, for meaningful discussions that will lead to a seamless transition process.”
The Transition Committee, which is chaired by former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Pius Odubu, consists of notable political figures and technocrats from across the state, all appointed to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated process. The members of the committee are expected to engage in detailed discussions with their counterparts in Obaseki’s administration, addressing all key aspects of governance and policy handover.
The full list of the committee members includes former Deputy Governor Pius Odubu, Dr. Pharm. Matthew Urhoghide, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Barrister Andrew Adaze Enwanta, Dr. Washington Osifo, Nosa Adams, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, Paul Ohonbamu, Edo Omorogieva, Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, Taiwo Akerele, and Godwin Eshieshie.
Other members include Yakson Musa, Kazeem Afegbua, Ohio Omo Ezomo, Gani Audu, Dr. Aminu Imafidon, Professor Oyaziwo Aluede, Professor Eunice Omonzejie, Matthew Egbadon, Dr. Tony Ikpasaja, Felix Akhabue, Kingsley Ehigiamusor, and Dr. Frank Omoh.
The letter from the APC Chairman also highlighted the importance of maintaining continuity in governance and ensuring that the incoming administration is well-prepared to assume office. “Your commitment to ensuring a seamless handover is highly appreciated,” Tenebe noted.
Governor Obaseki had, on Sunday, formally written to Governor-Elect Senator Okpebholo, requesting the formation of a transition team to manage the logistics of the handover. Obaseki’s gesture is seen as a positive move towards fostering cooperation between the outgoing and incoming administrations, reflecting a shared commitment to the development of Edo State.
The formation of the transition committee is expected to address a range of issues, including the final review of key projects, governance frameworks, and financial management. It will also focus on ensuring that ongoing initiatives in critical sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and security are properly handed over and sustained.
As Edo State prepares for this important political transition, the smooth cooperation between the APC and Obaseki’s outgoing government will set the tone for the next phase of governance under Senator Okpebholo. Political analysts believe that a well-organized transition will help build public confidence in the incoming administration, ensuring continuity and stability in Edo’s governance.
Governor-elect Okpebholo has pledged to build on the successes of the Obaseki administration, promising to continue key developmental projects and policies aimed at improving the lives of Edo citizens. The Transition Committee will play a critical role in ensuring that the incoming administration is ready to hit the ground running from day one.
