Legaldeskng, reported that the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot,  sent the human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, to prison.

Mr Effiong who is handling a case for his client before Justice Obot’s court in Uyo disclosed this in a message he posted on his WhatsApp status around 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

Lawyer, Nsikak Akai, Esq, disclosed this in his statement on Wednesday.

The certified true copy of the record of proceedings was made available 21 days after the conviction of Inibehe Effiong for contempt of court contrary to Sections 36(7) and 294(1) of the Constitution which stipulate that the parties to a cause or matter be furnished with duly authenticated copies of the decision of a trial court within seven days of the delivery thereof.

The Notice of Appeal against the conviction and sentence of one month imprisonment imposed on Inibehe Effiong will be filed on Thursday, August 18, 2022.

Barely 48 hours after incarcerated human rights activist, Inibehe Effiong, through his lawyers sued the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Honourable Justice Ekaette Fabian Obot, over her refusal to release the record of proceedings for the hearing where she committed him for contempt, the Court has made the CTC of the record of proceedings available.
