AIRCRAFT HIJACKING

In Nigeria, it is an offence for anyone on board an aircraft (either on ground or in flight) to forcefully seize control aircraft.

This offence is known as
“hijacking”

PENALTY
1) Imprisonment for life and
2) Fine of not less than N10,000,000.00 (ten million naira).

On 25 October 1993, four young Nigerian men hijacked an aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Airways with a toy gun, four litres of petrol and knives. The aircraft meant to be from Lagos to Abuja was eventually diverted to Niger Republic.
