The management of Air Peace has confirmed an incident involving one of its aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday.
The airline clarified that a windshield issue was reported but emphasized that it did not lead to any panic among passengers or crew members.
According to the airline, the aircraft experienced a windshield issue, which was promptly addressed by the flight crew.
Air Peace reassured the public that safety remains its top priority and that all necessary protocols were followed to ensure the well-being of everyone on board.
On Monday, SaharaReporters reported that as the plane – an Embraer ERJ 145 – descended into the Abuja airport, its windshield shattered.
The flight, which had departed from Akure in Ondo State at 8:30 am, landed at 9:40 am without further incident.
Notably, among the passengers on board was human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore, who was travelling to Abuja to attend a scheduled court trial.
Although the flight crew opted not to disclose the incident to the passengers, sources close to the matter revealed to SaharaReporters that it sparked significant concern within the aviation industry, given the rarity of such occurrences.
SaharaReporters further learnt that following the incident, Air Peace cancelled its Abuja to Lagos flight and also its planned Akure to Lagos flight.
Meanwhile, in a statement released on Tuesday, obtained by SaharaReporters, the management noted that the safety of the passengers was not jeopardised in any way.
The statement reads, “The flight went smoothly and the aircraft landed safely without any abnormal events after suffering the windshield damage.”Our attention has been drawn to reports about a windshield shattering on Air Peace Flight from Akure to Abuja, which supposedly caused panic among the flying passengers.
“We would like to state clearly that there was no such “Panic event” on the said flight. On the contrary, it was a smooth flight that landed safely without any abnormal events.”
According to the management, the safety of the passengers was not jeopardised in any way.
It said, “The windshield had a crack on the outer layer of the front window of the first officer’s side, which was discovered by the cockpit crew. On no account was the safety of the flight or the safety of the passenger jeopardised in the process.
“This particular flight operated normally from Akure to Abuja and landed safely in Abuja without any unsafe events or safety concerns.
“On landing at Abuja airport, the pilots did their normal workaround and reported the cracked outer layer of one of the windshields to the engineers, who immediately commenced the replacement of the cracked windshield.”
