The President of the African Bar Association (AfBA) -Hannibal Uwaifo Esq , and his entourage visited the Chairman of Nigeria’s Federal inland Revenue Service and Chairman Joint Tax Board- Mr Muhammad Nami who is also Chairman of the African and Commonwealth Taxation Association ,at the Corporate Headquarters of the Service in Nigeria recently.

The President of AfBA -Hannibal Uwaifo Esq., called for FIRS Collaboration with AfBA especially on taxation and finance matters.He indicated the possibility of the Taxation and Finance Law Committee of AfBA to work with the FIRS and the need for both parties to brainstorm and provide solutions to the myriad of problems facing taxation in Africa.

He also indicated the need to de-Politicize taxation issues and for the parliament to listen and use expert advice in taxation legislations.

He called for proper collection of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the need for equity in sharing of same , he expressed concern over multiple tax collections , just as he called for FIRS’ participation in the 2022 International Annual Conference of Afba in Lilogwe , Malawi amongst others.

The Meeting was held in an atmosphere of amity and the Chairman of FIRS -Mr Mohammed Nami ,who took notes , stated that he will look into the issues raised and Concerns expressed by the AfBA President , stating that FIRS is also open to Collaboration with AfBA on many fronts .
