The government of Adamawa State has declared Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28, as work-free days for civil servants to participate in ongoing voter registration.

The state Head of the Civil Service, Dr Amos Edgar, announced this, Tuesday during the solidarity rally held in the state capital, Yola, by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Edgar who noted that the continuous voter registration (CVR) being done by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be suspended by end of this month, urged civil servants and other residents who have not done their registration to seize the opportunity of the 2-day holiday to do so.

The Adamawa head of service who represented Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the NLC solidarity rally around the streets of Yola, had pledged to the NLC that he would deliver their message to the governor.

The NLC Chairman in Adamawa State, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, during the rally in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the various state governors to intervene decisively towards ending the strike by ASUU.

Fashe said students and their parents had had enough of the strike and that if allowed to continue, idleness by students could lead to consequences that the entire society would not find palatable.

The NLC solidarity rally around major streets in Yola was heavily guarded by operatives of the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
