A former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Elder Wole Oyelese, has cautioned people who are close to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State against making unnecessary comments that can affect the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.
Oyelese made this disclosure on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Newsmen gathered that Makinde and some PDP governors have vowed not to support the presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku.
It was gathered that some aides of the governor have been taking advantage of the situation to gain cheap popularity.
One of the chieftains of the party, Elder Wole Oyelese has then cautioned aides of the governor against making further statements on the matter.
Oyelese in a statement made available to Newsmen insisted that such comments may affect the chances of the party in 2023.
He added that those who are close to the governor, especially his aides should not take advantage of the current happenings in the party to cause more division among the party members and leaders.
He said that leaders of the party will not allow those whom he called detractors to destroy the party.
He added that destructive activities will not be in the interest of either the governor, the party or the candidates of the party.
Oyelese said, “Detractors cannot destroy PDP In Oyo.
“It has come to our notice that some mischievous individuals are taking advantage of the frosty relationship between Elder Oyelese and the governor to peddle falsehood calculated to generate bad blood in the party.
“I want to appeal to the praise singers surrounding the governor but who cannot say the truth when the need arises to desist from their slavish and destructive activities as it is not in the best interest of either the governor, the party or the candidates of our party for the different elective offices.
“The people of Oyo state are eagerly waiting for the PDP to remain in power and we cannot afford to let them down.”
