The Sokoto State government has formally written to the Federal Government of Nigeria to suspend the blockage of telecommunication network services that was imposed on 14 Local Government Area of the state recently.

The decision was informed after hours of security council meeting on the terror attack on Goronyo market which left 43 people lifeless last week.

According to a press statement signed by the Special Adviser on media and publicity Affairs to Governor Abdullahi Waziri Tambuwa, Malam Mohammed Bello, the Governor disclosed this when he received the members of the North Eastern Governors Forum who were in Sokoto on Saturday to condole him over the recent terror attack in Goronyo market.

The statement noted that the North-East Governors Forum (NEGF) were represented by Governors of Borno and Gombe states, Prof. Babagana Aymara Zulum and Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya respectively.

Governor Tambuwal said that the suspension of the blockage became necessary in view of concerns expressed by security outfits in the state that the blockage was seriously affecting the smooth conduct of their legitimate endeavours.

According to the statement, the state government has already forwarded a letter to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy to review the network blockage.
