A High Court of Justice sitting in Kogi State has sentenced one Danladi Ichado to death for the murder of two women to wit: Rabiyetu Yusufu and Jemila Karim. The convict stood trial for the offence of culpable homicide punishable with death under section 221(1)(a) of the Kogi State Penal Code Law, 2019.
The Prosecution had at the trial, called six witnesses which included an eye witness at the scene of crime.
The evidence of the Prosecution revealed that the convict committed the offence of culpable homicide punishable with death by stabbing the two deceased persons with a short Cutlass at Oko-Ojuwo Ogaji in Ankpa L.G.A., Kogi State on 6th June, 2020. The eye witness whom the convict also attempted to stab on that same day, was lucky to have escaped and she testified as one of the Prosecution witnesses in the case.
During the trial, the Convict raised the defence of “alibi” which was calculated to mean that he was elsewhere other than the scene of crime on the day of the incident.
Delivering his judgment at Lokoja on Tuesday, 28th September, 2021, the trial Judge, Hon. Justice N. Awulu held that the Prosecution proved its case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt and consequently sentenced him to death by hanging.

Reacting to the judgment, the Prosecuting Counsel, Inedu Opaluwa, Esq. (Senior Legal Officer) from the Kogi State Ministry of Justice, commended the court for doing justice in the matter without fear or favour. “We are happy with the judgment as the souls of the deceased women can now rest in peace.”, he said.
