Fathers, Mothers;

Sons, Daughters;

The story of the world;

True or false?

Well, correct, but only partly;

That is, with some notable exceptions;

Such as Adam, Eve and Jesus;

Who were simply willed into being -

By the One Omnipotent God;

Directly, without a human 'conduit';

Once again, with a one exception;

Jesus, the son of Mary

For, though he had a biological mother -

Virtually everyone agrees -

That Joseph - Mary's husband -

Had no hand in 'it'

As for his reward?

He became the proudest dad of all;

And an example to others after him -

That we need not share the same genes -

To recognize our shared humanity;

In other words -

Even if you merely stand in loco parentis -

In the eyes of the law -

Regard the next man;

As your next-of-kin;

Treat him or her;

As you would your family

Accordingly, even if –

For whatever reason;

You never knew your own dad;

Or - for that matter - your mother;

As long as you can read this;

Resolve to be;

Possibly the best human being;

That ever lived

So that it would be said;

That you were a sublime testament;

To parenthood beyond bloodlines;

And humanity that was colour-blind!
