So today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
I write this as a practitioner and a crusader for the elimination of violence against women.
The world is simply filled with diverse stories of gender based violence, sexual abuse and social conflict. The stories aren’t pleasant to say the least. We are inundated with the gory reality that the world is challenged.
In the face of every challenge in human history – in times of war, economic distress, endemic pestilence, displacement occasioned by insurgency and the failure of governance, women and children are often the worst hit in the social violence chain.
Arm conflict in African have seen more women raped and children defiled than any other incident in the world. Full scale violence unleashed against women and children during this time accounts for one of the world’s biggest challenges.
Whilst the world struggles to contain the increasing scale of violence, economic conflicts in larger parts of the world have kicked in more violence against women like never before.
In Nigeria, young girls are being abducted from schools, marriages are going down the drain and in recent times, women have resorted to self-help among other things, on many occasions, as a way of protesting against the ugly trend.
So the aforesaid explains why women are constantly stabbing their male counterparts. The use of violence to contend violence will bring us to a halt. And in the face of a breakdown of law and order more women will be put in violent conditions.
While I do not endorse violence from any gender, I will advocate therefore that men and women must be conscious of this menace and get involved in the crusade to eliminate all kinds of violence against women.
I am not unmindful of the obvious fact that abuse and extreme violence is high amongst women as it could be found everywhere else. The propellant of these vices is not gender base anymore.
A survey has it that in same sex relationships, mostly of the lesbian contraption, studies have seen more abuse and extreme violence amongst women.
This is not to say men are exculpated. Men contribute hugely to the records and so we must face it. We must stand in between the gap to reshape the instigants of social conflict. Develop a new social order that will leave us with the truth that every man is a biological compartment of a woman.
That violence against women may force humanity into extinction. That man is a constituent agent of a natural principal called the woman. That the deliberate twist of this natural order explains why sociology has sank miserably.
Every woman should be protected.
Protect the woman, she’s the future of the human race in the value chain of civilisation, industrialisation and productivity. The woman must be allowed to aspire to her full potential where she comparatively have a polity to live in and if the polity must have any meaning at all, it must be that the culture that represses women and their voice must be expunged from our social totem.
We should write a new canon.
This is my pledge.
