A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has expressed dissatisfaction with the partial Call Off of strike by the Lagos Chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN.
TheNigerialawyer recalls that JUSUN, on April 6 embarked on industrial action, shutting down courts across the nation, demanding judicial independence.
The Lagos State Chapter of the Union announced in Wednesday that it will partially resume work in view of the State government’s tireless efforts to ensure that the demands of the ongoing nationwide strike are met. The Chairs of JUSUN Lagos Chapter, Asiwaju Shobowale Kehinde said to whom much is Given, Much is expected.
However, reacting to the partial call-off, Adegboruwa said the action is unacceptable. According to him, even Federal Government that observes autonomy of Judiciary is on solidarity strike
He said, “This purported partial call off of the strike action by Lagos JUSUN is absolutely unacceptable.
“From my records, the federal government is in compliance with financial autonomy even more than Lagos State, yet federal workers are on solidarity strike.”
He queried, “I ask JUSUN, who is collecting revenue for the courts in Lagos State, is it not Alpha Beta?
“Who buys vehicles for judges and staff, is it not the executive?
“Why do we deceive ourselves?”
The distinguished silk alleged that the Lagos government wants to abort the strike action just the way it allegedly divided NBA into executive sessions in State House Marina, instead of mass action
He reiterated his position that the call off of the strike is unacceptable
“Personally, I’m concerned that the government of Lagos State is doing so much to abort the strike action, in the same fashion that it succeeded in dividing the NBA into executive sessions in State House Marina, instead of mass action.
“This is totally unacceptable, for Lagos State JUSUN. It is either you are on strike or you are not.” he said
